Carve out some time to come to Sturgeon Bay Saturday, February 17 for the 13th annual Sturgeon Bay Fire and Ice weekend. Snow and ice carvers will sculpt jaw-dropping masterpieces throughout Sturgeon Bay in a competition for cash prizes and the recognition of the People’s Choice Award (ice carving only). Locals and visitors will dine and dance the night away at the sold out, black-tie-optional Fire & Ice Gala at Stone Harbor Resort Saturday evening.
Professional snow sculptors are scheduled to carve 6 snow blocks (ice will be carved in case of no snow), putting their artistic skills to the test to outdo each other’s creativity. Test your own carving flair with free-carve ice blocks (if available) in Martin Park (207 S. Third Ave).
Sturgeon Bay businesses are sponsoring 17 ice blocks for carving. Between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., volunteer carvers will creatively turn a 300 pound crystal clear ice block into an “ice-terpiece”. They will compete for People’s Choice Award, and cash prizes for first, second and third place in beginner, intermediate and advanced categories, as evaluated by a panel of ice carving judges. Judges will make their determinations after 2 p.m. and the awards ceremony will take place at the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center office (36 S. Third Ave.) at 3 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend the ceremony.
Each carver or team of carvers receives a food/drink voucher donated by Scaturo’s Baking Co. and Cafe, 5th & Jefferson Coffehouse, and Brick Lot Pub & Grill. The professional snow carvers receive complimentary lodging from Bridgeport Waterfront Resort and Stone Harbor Resort.
Tour Sturgeon Bay on Saturday and watch the carvers via free trolley rides from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Some trolley stops include Bay Shore Outfitters, Popelka Trenchard Glass, Martin Park, Door County Eye Associates, and 5th & Jefferson Coffeehouse.
The annually sold-out Fire & Ice Gala at Stone Harbor Resort begins at 6 p.m. with cocktails and a live auction of experience packages and individual items donated by local businesses. Marcell Guyton and The Rhythm Kings will entertain guests from 8:30 p.m. until midnight.
