Peninsula Music Festival Presents “A Night in Vienna” – A Dazzling Tribute to Classical Elegance

July 22, 2025 by Laurel Ciohon

Door County, WIs. (July 22, 2025) – Step into the elegance and grandeur of Vienna with A Night in Vienna, a captivating concert presented by the Peninsula Music Festival (PMF) on August 16, 2025. Under the baton of Maestro Rune Bergmann, this enchanting program showcases the genius of Mozart and Beethoven, brought to life by PMF’s world-class orchestra and featuring two exceptional string soloists: Concertmaster Dennis Kim and Principal Violist Joan DerHovsepian.

“A Night in Vienna is a love letter to the classical heart of Europe,” says Maestro Rune Bergmann. “Mozart and Beethoven represent the height of elegance, charm, and emotional depth. To share these masterpieces with our audience, especially with such extraordinary soloists, is something special.”

The evening opens with Mozart’s Eine kleine Nachtmusik, one of his most beloved works. With its buoyant melodies and timeless grace, this delightful serenade sets the perfect tone for a night celebrating Vienna’s golden age of music.

Next, the spotlight turns to Mozart’s Sinfonia concertante in E-flat major, K. 364, a luminous duet for violin and viola. The interplay between Kim and DerHovsepian promises a captivating experience, as their rich tone and expressive phrasing bring to life Mozart’s intricate and playful dialogue. A highlight of the season, this performance captures the perfect balance of individuality and unity.

The program concludes with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1, a bold and energetic work that bridges classical refinement and romantic invention. Written at the dawn of the 19th century, this spirited symphony showcases Beethoven’s emerging genius with surprising twists, dynamic contrasts, and a jubilant finale.

“This program is everything that makes live classical music magical,” says Lisa Harper, PMF Executive Director. “The brilliance of our orchestra, the intimacy of the soloists’ performance, and the emotional power of these Viennese masterpieces—it’s an unforgettable evening our audience won’t want to miss.”

This concert is part of PMF’s 73rd season, which runs August 5–23, 2025, and features an extraordinary lineup of internationally renowned soloists, including pianists Fei-Fei Dong and Avery Gagliano, cellists Luka Coetzee and Sterling Elliott, percussion legend Dame Evelyn Glennie, soprano Jacquelyn Wagner, and the Apollo Chorus of Chicago.
