Door County, Wis. (August 13, 2025) — One of classical music’s brightest young stars is coming to Door County. On Thursday, August 21 at 7:30 PM, the Peninsula Music Festival welcomes internationally acclaimed cellist Sterling Elliott for The New World, an evening pairing Dvořák’s Cello Concerto with his beloved Symphony No. 9, “From the New World.” Led by Maestro Rune Bergmann, this program blends Bohemian melodies, African American spirituals, and the grandeur of the American landscape into an unforgettable concert experience.
Elliott, praised by The Millbrook Independent as “a star cellist who has risen beyond hopeful promise to astonishing maturity,” has already performed with the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, and Los Angeles Philharmonic. He is the recipient of the 2021 Avery Fisher Career Grant and 2019 National Sphinx Competition. His 2024/2025 season includes appearances at Wigmore Hall, Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and a return to Carnegie Hall.
“Sterling Elliott brings a depth of artistry far beyond his years,” said Maestro Rune Bergmann. “His interpretation of the Dvořák Cello Concerto will be both breathtaking and deeply moving—an experience our audience will never forget.”
The concert opens with Dvořák’s passionate Cello Concerto, a work of soaring melodies, fiery virtuosity, and profound emotional depth. In the second half, audiences will be transported by his Symphony No. 9, “From the New World”, a sweeping and deeply heartfelt tribute to America’s landscapes, cultures, and spirit.
“This program captures the essence of what the Peninsula Music Festival is all about—world-class musicianship, transformative performances, and a deep connection between artist and audience,” said Executive Director Lisa Harper. “It’s a celebration of cultural influences coming together to create something timeless and powerful.”
This concert is part of PMF’s 73rd season, running August 5–23, 2025, and featuring an extraordinary lineup of internationally renowned soloists, including pianists Fei-Fei Dong and Avery Gagliano, cellists Luka Coetzee and Sterling Elliott, percussion legend Dame Evelyn Glennie, soprano Jacquelyn Wagner, and the Apollo Chorus of Chicago.
